The Giving Partner is an online resource for informed charitable decisions, connecting philanthropy and our community. 

The Giving Partner, presented by the Community Foundation of Sarasota County, helps local nonprofits tell their story, and enables all of us to explore how each nonprofit is making a difference in the greater Sarasota area. This powerful, searchable database contains over 700 profiles of charitable organizations serving Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte, and DeSoto counties. Each profile reflects an organization’s commitment to transparency, reflecting programmatic outcomes/results, leadership, financial health, and more. As a centralized nonprofit directory for year-round awareness, engagement, and giving, this is a trusted resource for grantmakers and other entities for philanthropic research. Learn more through our helpful FAQ, and check out a few profiles here by utilizing the search feature. 

To get started, refer to the appropriate sections of the Nonprofit Toolkit below. This contains everything that nonprofit organizations need to know to ensure that creating and maintaining a profile is a success!

1. Qualify

Qualify for a profile in The Giving Partner (if your organization already has a profile, skip to Step #5).

HOW TO QUALIFY 

A nonprofit organization must have both of the following in order to meet eligibility requirements:

  1. IRS Letter of Determination (see example below) - Only the following determinations are eligible:  501(c)(3) or 501(c)(4) veterans' organizations with 90% war vet membership, or 501(c)(4) volunteer fire departments.  
  2. At least one current program (in existence for at least six months) with local impact in at least one of the following counties: Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte or DeSoto.





2. Apply

Apply for a profile in The Giving Partner (if your organization already has a profile, skip to Step #5).

HOW TO APPLY FOR A PROFILE

For Organizations That Don’t Yet Have a Profile

If your organization meets the above Qualifications and does not already have a profile, here are your next steps: 

  • First, click here to view the Orientation of The Giving Partner (learn best practices and expectations).   
  • Next, click here  to Apply for a profile.  

Note: There is no cost to have a profile. If you aren’t comfortable with technology, please reach out to a friend or family member who can assist, as you will complete this online. 

After you’ve submitted your Application, your profile will be in a Pre-Pending status while we verify the information. So long as your organization meets the above Qualifications, you’ll receive an email notification indicating that you can proceed with developing your organization’s profile (be sure you mark notifications@givegab.com as a safe sender so that these important emails make it to your inbox).   


3. Prepare

Thoughtful preparation will make this an efficient process and enable you to complete your organization’s profile most effectively.

HOW TO PREPARE

Prepare to create your organization’s profile:

  • Assign Administrator(s) from your organization that will be working on your profile. They should have, or have access to, adequate knowledge about your organization, along with very basic technical knowledge, in order to answer all questions (some of which require detailed descriptions), and to accurately complete the profile. Be mindful around who is chosen for this responsibility
  • Gather required documents in digital format (IRS Letter of Determination, 990s, Profit & Loss Statements, Balance Sheets, State Charitable Solicitations Permit, Conflict of Interest Policy), as you will need to upload these. 

4. Create

Create a profile in The Giving Partner (if your organization already has a profile, skip to Step #5).

HOW TO CREATE A PROFILE

After our review of your Application, you will receive an email indicating if your organization can get started with creating a profile. It is important to follow the steps below to ensure you’ve not missed anything necessary for us to Approve your profile: 

  • Create your organization’s profile online:  Click this link for the CHECKLIST, and follow all instructions within (for easy reference, you may either print the Checklist, or keep it open in a separate window/tab while working on your profile). Check for grammatical errors. It is also helpful to ask a friend or family member for their perspective (do things make sense?).  
  • After your work is fully completed, click SUBMIT PROFILE FOR REVIEW (do not submit a partially completed profile!)
  • Deadline for Profile Submission: Submit your new profile for review/approval AS SOON AS POSSIBLE (preferably within 30 days of application acceptance).  

FOUNDATION REVIEW PROCESS

Foundation reviews occur in the order that profiles are submitted.

  • So long as you’ve not missed any required fields and have provided the correct documents/data, your profile will be published with the status of Approved/Current.
  • If you’ve missed any required fields or have not provided the correct documents/data, your profile status will indicate Pending until you have provided correct documents/data.

If you aren’t sure if you have completed all necessary fields, the best way to determine this is to easily cross-check your profile with the Checklist. 

After our review, you will receive an email indicating the profile status (be sure you mark notifications@givegab.com as a safe sender so that these important emails make it to your inbox). As there are multiple data points in each profile that we must review, we appreciate your patience (especially during peak periods with many profiles awaiting review).

PROFILE STATUS

One of the profile statuses below is indicated on your Admin Dashboard (top right). Anytime the status changes, you will receive an email informing you of this!

  • Pending - Profile is awaiting your completion and submission of required fields that were not completed. 
  • Submitted - Profile is in line for review
  • In Review - Profile is being reviewed
  • Approved - Profile is up-to-date (status is reflected as Current in the Public Interface). An Approved/Current status signifies that the organization has provided required content and key information was reviewed by our team (this is not a grade, rating, or certification).

Anytime something expires or becomes due (several documents/data fields within each profile expire or become due at different dates throughout each year), these must be updated to retain the Approved/Current status. 5. Update/Maintain

Update and maintain your organization’s profile in The Giving Partner. 

HOW TO UPDATE/MAINTAIN YOUR ORGANIZATION’S PROFILE

  • Re-verification Pending - Profile has one or more key updates incomplete (status is reflected as Expired on the Public Interface; an Expired status is merely an indicator that one or more key documents/data have expired and need attention) 
  • Submitted for Re-verification - Profile is in line for review
  • Re-verification (In Review) - Profile is being reviewed
  • Approved - Profile is up-to-date (status is reflected as Current in the Public Interface). An Approved/Current status signifies that the organization has provided required content and key information was reviewed by our team (this is not a grade, rating, or certification).   

6. Promote

Promote your organization through The Giving Partner

HOW TO PROMOTE YOUR ORGANIZATION 

For profiles with an Approved/Current status.    

If your nonprofit is looking for a way to bridge the fundraising-technology gap, you can easily utilize the following features (which are integrated within your profile) to enhance and streamline your organization's donation and fundraising opportunities! 

  • Donate Button (Opt-In only) - Login to your organization’s profile and go to Profile Setup > Get Verified to Collect Donations
  • Boost Fundraising Suite (Opt-In only) - Cick this link to get started      

Before you begin, we encourage you to explore the August 10, 2020 Webinar | Slides to learn more about the Donate Button and Boost Fundraising Suite. 

Note: Please know that both the Donate Button and Boost Fundraising Suite are not required: these features are “opt-in” only. As described in the webinar, subscription fees are tied to the Boost Fundraising Suite if your organization elects to continue after the special promotion expires.  


Eligibility for Other Opportunities

To be eligible for opportunities available through the Community Foundation of Sarasota County (i.e., grant applications, trainings, Giving Challenge, etc.), nonprofit organizations must first have an Approved/Current profile status in The Giving Partner.

Additionally, here is a bit of clarification on the relationship and differences between our two highly-regarded platforms with similar names:

  • The Giving Partner - is a year-round online platform reflecting nonprofits in our local area
  • Giving Challenge - is a 24-hour online giving event, typically held every other year. The next Giving Challenge will be held April 26-27, 2022. For more information click here.
