What is a Peer-to-Peer Fundraiser?

A Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Fundraiser (or Fundraising Champion) rallies around your nonprofit organization/cause to fundraise on your organization’s behalf.

  • P2P Fundraisers create their own fundraising page in The Giving Partner as a spin off of your main profile in The Giving Partner.
  • P2P Fundraisers will share that page within their network to expand the reach of your organization and bring in new donors.
  • P2P Fundraisers are individuals who are passionate about the work your organization does, and use their voice to make a difference!

Who are Your Potential Fundraising Champions?

Even if your board members aren’t required to make a contribution to serve your cause, they should never turn down an opportunity to support your mission and fundraise on your behalf. Acting as a P2P fundraiser, your board members can rally around your mission and collect donations as an ambassador and ally for your cause.
Your volunteers regularly dedicate their time to your organization. These supporters are tightly associated with your work and have a passion for your cause. Encourage your volunteers to get involved at a higher level by fundraising on your behalf.
Your dedicated supporters are those who have been there for your organization through it all! Their dedication to your cause is what makes them perfect fundraisers for your organization/campaign in The Giving Partner.
Donors who have already contributed to your organization are a key group to consider when recruiting your fundraisers. Your lower capacity donors may not have the resources to give as much as they would like, but their involvement doesn’t have to be limited to monetary contributions.
Major donors obviously have a great passion for your work! If they want to go beyond making substantial monetary gifts to your organization, you can also encourage them to reach out to their own social circles.
Your staff is deeply connected to your organization, as they devote themselves to furthering your mission everyday. Capitalize on their dedication to your cause by enlisting them as fundraisers!
Your friends and family know how important your work is and want to see you succeed. Ask your personal network to help you and your organization by getting involved as a P2P fundraiser. They may not be personally connected to your organization, but they are to you, so they’ll be more than willing to raise money on your behalf!

How Does it Work?

Step 1: Go to your Dashboard in The Giving Partner

  • Reference video below.
  • Go to www.TheGivingPartner.org
  • Click Menu in the top right corner and select Log in from the dropdown menu.
  • Once you log in, click ONLY on the The Giving Partner tab on the far left of your dashboard.
  • From The Giving Partner dashboard, click on the Profile Setup tab.
  • Click on the Add Fundraisers section

Step 2: Add Peer-to-Peer Fundraisers in The Giving Partner

  • From the Add Fundraisers section, click the Add Fundraisers button to start inviting your P2P Fundraisers.
  • You can invite multiple people at once by clicking the + New Fundraiser button. You also have the option to upload a list of P2P Fundraisers via the Upload Fundraisers button.
  • Once you've added all of your P2P Fundraisers, click the Next: Compose Your Message button

Step 3: Compose Your Message & Send Your Invitation

  • After clicking the Next: Compose Your Message button, you'll be prompted to compose a custom subject and message that your P2P Fundraisers will receive in their invitation email.
  • Once your message is ready to send click the Send button (the invitation will be emailed to your P2P Fundraisers from GiveGab’s email: notifications@givegab.com)

       The invitation email will include:

  • The link to their fundraising dashboard (where they will customize their individual fundraising page)
  • The custom URL for their fundraising page in The Giving Partner (so they can share their fundraising page within their network!)
  • The link to the Peer-to-Peer Fundraiser - Toolkit (for instructions, tips and tricks)
  • View and manage your P2P Fundraisers from the Add Fundraisers section of The Giving Partner.
  • You may click the Message All button to send a message to all of your current P2P Fundraisers.

Step 4: Allow Peer-to-Peer Fundraisers to sign-up without an invitation from you

  • Your supporters can also start fundraising (without being recruited by you) by clicking the Fundraise button on your profile in The Giving Partner.

These P2P Fundraisers will be provided with:

  • The link to their custom fundraising page (where they will customize their individual fundraising page)
  • The custom URL for their fundraising page in The Giving Partner (so they can share their fundraising page within their network!)
  • The link to the Peer-to-Peer Fundraiser - Toolkit (for instructions, tips and tricks

  • If your organization prefers not to allow P2P Fundraisers to sign up on their own, you may de-select the box Allow New Fundraisers to Sign Up (located in the Add Fundraiser section of your admin dashboard for The Giving Partner).
  • De-selecting this box will remove the Fundraise button from your profile in The Giving Partner.

Step 5: Follow up, support and thank your P2P Fundraisers

Treat your P2P Fundraisers like major donors! Fundraising for your organization is a higher level of participation that warrants stewardship before, during and after they are a Fundraiser:

  • Share the Peer-to-Peer Fundraiser - Toolkit (for The Giving Partner): This toolkit provides great insight for potential P2P Fundraisers/Champions to learn how to create their custom fundraiser page, along with communication templates, fundraising strategies, and support articles and videos.
  • Host a Zoom meeting or other type of kickoff: Get all of your P2P Fundraisers on the same page with a kickoff event. Encourage Fundraisers to build their page in the kickoff gathering as they meet and share stories and tips with fellow Fundraisers.
  • Foster storytelling and capture stories: Most P2P Fundraisers will have a special story or memory that makes their heart sing for your organization and the work you do. Motivate your Fundraisers to share their stories by asking questions like:
    • What do you wish everyone knew about this organization/cause?
    • What made you decide to make your first gift?
    • Why do you enjoy giving to or volunteering for our organization?
    • What is your favorite program or service our organization offers?
